Espanola’s Kennedy commits to Calvin College of ACHA

ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Espanola Express of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce that forward Keenan Kennedy has committed to attend Calvin College and play hockey with the Knights’ program beginning in the 2016-17 season.

The  graduating 20-year-old Barrie, On., product skated in 29 games for the Express this season scoring five times and adding 5 assists for 10 points.

Before arriving in Espanola this season, Kennedy spent the last two  and a half seasons in Eastern Canada playing in the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

“Keenan is a great young man and speedy winger, who came in to our team and immediately added grit and leadership to our team;” added  Espanola co-coach Jason Rapcewicz.

“Keenans speed, energy and physical presence will definately be missed, but we couldn’t be happier to see another Express player advance to the next level of his choosing in our first year here in Espanola,” said new Express GM Scott Ginson

The Espanola Express family would like to wish Keenan all the best as he advances his career to the next level. Calvin has a great student athlete joining their family and we know he will be successful in the rink and the classroom!

Based in Grand Rapids, Mich., the Calvin men’s hockey team finished this season with a 20-5-1 record in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Knights won their league title playing out of the Michigan College Hockey Conference, which earned them a berth in the ACHA D-III national championships where they advanced all the way to the semifinals.

After having a very successful 2015-2016 season, the Calvin Knights have applied to play the 2016-2017 season in the ACHA D-I level and if this is approved, Kennedy will find himself playing against former Express teamate Ian Thompson. With both their schools based in Grand Rapids Michigan, we expect there will be a great cross town rivalry.
