Graduating Espanola Express veteran defenceman Shane Snow has aged out as a player on the team and now will be joining Tom McCarthy and Jason Rapcewicz on the bench for the upcoming 2016-2017 season as associate coach .
The rugged journeyman defender will take the next step in his storied junior hockey career and will add another chapter with his new role on the team. Shane started his junior career as a 16 year old for the Blind River Beavers, then moved on to play for Kemptville of the CCHL. Snow then headed west to play for the Soo Thunderbirds before landing in Espanola to play his final junior year. “I couldn’t think of a better place to play my last junior year then Espanola”, said Snow. He then went on to add, “the opportunity to play for Coach Tom McCarthy was an incredible experience for me and now I have the opportunity to continue learning from him and continue to help the team at the same time.”
When Shane came to Espanola he instantly became a leader both on and off the ice, he quickly gained the respect from his coaches and fellow hockey players with his work ethic, tenacity and knowledge of the game. “Shane always lead by example when he was on the ice and he was very verbal on the bench, he has all the tools to be a very successful coach”, stated Co-Coach Jason Rapcewicz.
