SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The powerful Powassan Voodoos broke open a tie game with a three-goal second period outburst to win their 11th game in a row as they derailed the Espanola Express 5-2 Wednesday afternoon in Day 2 play at the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Showcase at Big Bear Arena.
Espanola did open the scoring on the first power play of the day as Alex Simard connected with help from Matais Salem and A.J. Favot.
Ryan Mills countered for the Voodoos at the 11-minute mark of the frame to knot the affair at 1-1 after one.
Powassan was all business in the middle stanza as they made a statement just 18 seconds into the session on a Tomas Yachmenev effort.
Parker Bowman then tallied twice in the period as part of a 24-shot barrage on Express goalkeeper Andrew Rocha.
In the third, Bowman finished off a hat trick and a four-point outing with a man advantage marker at 6:14 on an afternoon where he extended a consecutive game point streak to 11.
Cole Delarosbil rounded out the scoring midway through the final frame as he scored for a fourth time on the season for the Express.
Luke Greenwood made 27 saves to pick up the win for Powassan while Rocha was busy seeing 51 shots against in defeat.
