Cochrane crunches Espanola

ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch got hat tricks from Konnar Dechaine and Braeden Cross as part of an 11-2 drubbing of the Espanola Express Friday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Regional Recreation Complex.

Cochrane came out quickly in this one grabbing an early 3-0 lead on markers by Rory Milne, Cross and Nick Flanders.

Nathan Viberg did get one back for the Express before the first period was complete.

However, the Crunch tacked on three more in the middle session to go up 6-1 after 40 minutes on efforts from Dechaine, Cross and Austin Stauffer.

They then erupted for five more in the final frame to finish off the convincing victory.

Dechaine had two of the goals while Cross, Kyle Herbster and Milne added the others.

Riley Smith picked up the second Espanola effort.

Joseph Thielen had three assists from Cochrane and Cross had two helpers for a five-point night.

Jacob Burhans made 31 saves to post the win for the Crunch.

Taylor Unruh started for the Express and suffered the loss allowing five on 19 shots.

Logan Sawka meanwhile handled 32 of 38 in relief.
