Eagles edge Express 2-1

ESPANOLA, Ont. – Bradley Hofelich’s first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League goal with 8:07 remaining proved to be the game-winner as the Soo Eagles earned a 2-1 victory over the Espanola Express Sunday afternoon at the Regional Recreation Complex.

The low-scoring affair was scoreless through two periods of play with Soo goaltender Jack Deines and his Espanola counterpart Aaron Callan keeping opposing shooters at bay.

Sault Ste. Marie did get on the board first 4:18 into the final stanza as Mike Winn struc for his initial NOJHL tally.

The Express came right back with the equalizer just 31 seconds later as Riley Tilot joined the club of first time NOJHL goal scorers.

It stayed tied until Hofelich won it for the Eagles as they held on from there to secure the road win.

Deines was solid in the Soo net making 41 saves in earning the triumph.

Callan saw 26 shots in defeat for Espanola.
