Espanola edges Blind River in 2 OT

ESPANOLA – Riley Tilot’s goal just over a half minute into the second overtime was the difference as the Espanola Express edged the Blind River Beavers 3-2 Friday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League exhibition play at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex.

The home side built up a 2-0 lead after one period of play getting markers from Riley Nadeau at 13:50 before Zack Pregent extended the cushion with 78 seconds remaining in the frame.

Battling back, Blind River pulled to within one with the lone tally in the second period as Sean Paterson found the back of the net at 6:06.

The Beavers then forced extra time with a power play effort courtesy of Liam Sweeney, who notched the equalizer with 16:48 to go in regulation.

After a five-minute first OT with the teams playing four skaters aside solved nothing, they went down another man where Tilot won in double OT.

Cameron Anklewich dished out two assists for the Express in the contest, including one on the game-winner.

Steven Khull and Bryce Campbell had a couple helpers apiece in defeat for Blind River.

Aaron Callan made 27 saves in earning the victory for Espanola while Martin Miloslovich faced 41 shots in the setback for the Beavers.

The two clubs will finish off a home-and-home Saturday with the Blind River Community Centre serving as the venue in a 7:30 p.m. start.
