The Espanola Express have added two local Sudbury 2001 birth year players to their 2017-2018 roster. Both players played last season for the Sudbury Wolves Minor Midget AAA program.
Signing to play with the Express this season is forward Jarod Hurley and defenceman James Way.
Hurley is an OHL draft pick of the Niagara Ice dogs and is a skilled player with outstanding speed. He also has great vision which allows him to be a great play maker and set up man.
“We have been watching Jarod for a while now as he came out to some team practices with us last year, as well as our current spring camp. He also played for the Express prospects team in Boston at the Chowder Cup,” said Express GM Chad Clarke.
Hurley was asked about the upcoming season with the Express and this is what he had to say. “I plan on making an impact with the Espanola Express and working hard to get to the next level.”
Defenceman Way is a composed steady stay at home defenceman with incredible feet, he has the ability to make his stride seem effortless with maximum results. James also spent a few practices with the Express last season, as well as attending our spring and main camp. He spent his off season working and preparing for the upcoming season and has received incredible results from his off ice work.
“James had a very impressive spring camp and has continued to impress staff more and more each time he hits the ice with our squad,” claimed Clarke. “We have high expectations for our new young defenceman and I have no doubt he will be very successful in our league in the years to come,” professed Clarke.
We asked Way about his opportunity to play with the Express and he said “Hockey is my passion and has been since I was 4 years old. I feel like I am just getting started in the game and I am excited to see how far this passion takes me.”
