Express captain Anklewich commots to NCAA D-III King’s College
ESPANOLA, Ont. — The Espanola Express of the NOJHL are proud to announce that captain Cameron Anklewich has committed to attend school and play NCAA D-III hockey for the King’s College Monarchs in Wilkes Barre, Penn.
The 20-year-old native of Calgary, Alta., has 20 points in 29 games for the Express this season.
“I’m really looking forward to the new opportunity that Kings College presents to me,” Anklewich.
“It’s been a dream of mine to play NCAA hockey since I was 13 years old. It’s been a lot of work since then, but to have it come true now is really exciting,” expressed the Espanola captain.
Based out of Wilkes-Barres Pennsylvania, the Monarch’s hockey program will begin it’s inaugural season in the fall of 2017-18.
“I’ve had a lot of good conversations with Coach Mallaro and I really feel this is going to be a good squad to make our mark in the UCHC next season,” added Anklewich.
Shortly before the Christmas break, Anklewich visited the school campus and met with Coach Mallaro and staff members to help aid him in his decision to accept the offer presented to him by the Monarchs.
“I love the feel of the campus and how it is a small private University in northeastern Pennsylvania. I’m not just going to be a number there and it’s going to be a real fun four years,” said Anklewich.
Cameron has played his entire junior career in Espanola for the past three seasons, two of which as Captain of the Express.
“”It’s been an honour to captain the Express for the past two seasons and play in Espanola since 2014-15. I’ve made a lot of life long friends here and learned so much from Coach Jason, Coach Tom and Coach Dennis. I will forever be grateful for the chance to play here and will always be proud to call myself an alumni of the Express,” added Anklewich.
Cameron will be truly missed in Espanola both on and off the ice as he is a character, class act player. He touched the hearts of many in the organization and throughout the community.
“I can’t thank the fans, billets and volunteers enough as they make the junior hockey program here possible. I’m going to miss playing in Espanola,” commented the Captain.
The Express staff couldn’t be happier for Cameron as he is a very dedicated player and comes with a first to come and last to leave attitude. His hard work and dedication has paid off and he is now advancing to the next level.
“I couldn’t be happier for Cameron. Out of all the schools he has talked to, this is the perfect fit for him,” added general manager Chad Clarke.
“I have watched Cameron grow not only as a player, but a young man over the last few years and the Monarchs will be more than satisfied with what he brings to the table,” offered Clarke.
