Espanola, Ontario
Espanola Express Captain Josh Zlatinszky has committed to Lindenwood University- Belleville Lynx men’s hockey team for the 2018-2019 season. Zlatinszky will be following the footsteps of former Espanola Alumni Brad Edwards, Brandon Janke and Duane Wainman who graduated junior hockey in Espanola and went on to play in a national championship with the Lynx.
Coach Lindsay Middlebrook has looked to Espanola in the past for quality character players and this year Coach Middlebrook has had his eye on Zlatinszky all season. Middlebrook first saw Josh at the NOJHL showcase in Sudbury back in October. Coach Middlebrook is excited to get Zlatinszky on the ice for the upcoming season and he had these things to say about his new defenceman.
“Josh brings many attributes to our team, including great leadership,” stated Coach Middlebrook. “He is rock steady on the blueline and a physical presence in front of our net. He is a big, strong defenseman who will make life miserable on the opposing forwards. Looking forward to Josh being an impact player immediately. Welcome to LU-B, Josh!”
The hard working captain played for 2 seasons with the Express and through hard work and determination earned himself an opportunity to advance his career to the collegiate level. As Zlatinszky prepares himself for this next step in his career, this is what he had to say about his achievements.
“I am happy to announce my commitment to Lindenwood University-Belleville,” said Zlatinszky. “Combining a quality education with a college hockey career is what I have strived for and Lindenwood has provided me with the opportunity to do both. I am looking forward to the upcoming season and semester and what it holds. I would also like to acknowledge the help and support I have gotten from friends and family up until this point, especially the Espanola Express organization and Tom McCarthy.”
The Entire Express staff, volunteers and players wish Josh the best of luck in his upcoming endeavors. We have no doubt he will be very successful at Lindenwood, where he plans to study biology.
