TIMMINS, Ont. – Tyler Masternak was there to handle all 19 shots he faced Saturday to post his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout as the Timmins Rock blanked the Espanola Express 7-0 in front of 735 fans at McIntyre Arena.
Up a man in the latter stages of the opening frame, Jace Soroko put Timmins in front at 16:56.
Paul Spadfora at even strength and Riley Robitaille while shorthanded then tallied in the middle stanza to extend the Rock’s lead.
A lengthy power play early in the third helped Timmins put the game out of reach as Tyler Gilberds and Derek Seguin connected in a 30-second span to add to the home side’s cushion.
The Rock kept rolling from there tacking on two more before the night was complete at 14:16 before Will Caston’s first NOJHL goal and Seth Reuben’s fourth rounded out the scoring a shift apart.
Gilberds also had two assists for a three-point evening.
Masternak and the Rock’s defensive corps did the rest to secure the victory.
Adam Scott faced 35 attempts in defeat in the Espanola net.
