ESPANOLA, Ont. – Greater Sudbury Cubs goaltender Noah Metivier once again proved to be unbeatable in backstopping his side to a 2-0 road triumph over the Espanola Paper Kings in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League West Division affair Sunday afternoon at the Regional Recreation Complex.
Neither side would convert offensively in a scoreless opening 20 minutes, as the two sides went to the dressing room for the first intermission, still in search of the days’ initial tally.
Staying tied until the final moments of the second stanza, Greater Sudbury broke the deadlock at 19:45 when Mason McCharles took a Cameron Shanks feed provided from behind the net and fired a rising shot that sailed over the shoulder of a screened Jake Marois in the Espanola net.
Third period play saw the Cubs add another with under nine minutes remaining in regulation where Pierson Sobush found himself free at the top of the crease and snapped the insurance marker over the glove of Marois.
That play also gave Sobush goals in three straight outings for his club.
Metivier and his teammates did the rest defensively to give him his second shutout in three appearances since joining Greater Sudbury and eight in his NOJHL career.
The win also sees the Cubs raise their record to 23-4-2-0 on the campaign, while the Paper Kings dropped to 12-11-2-2.
