NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that defenceman Alex Little (Powassan Voodoos) as well as forwards Atley Gringorten (Espnaola Paper Kings) and Nicolas Pigeon (Timmins Rock) have ben tabbed its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Sept. 18.

ALEX LITTLE, (D) POWASSAN VOODOOS – An impressive weekend at both ends of the ice saw the 19-year-old Minden, Ont., product pile up six assists in a pair of Powassan victories.

Opening up Friday with a career single-game-best four helpers in a home ice triumph over Greater Sudbury, Little capped his run by setting up two tallies Saturday in a road decision at Elliot Lake.

His seven assists overall currently lead all NOJHL defenceman while his eight points tie him for the league-lead among blueliners.

ATLEY GRINGORTEN, (F) ESPANOLA PAPER KINGS – Contributing nicely for the newly-minted Paper Kings, Gringorten chipped in offensively as part of back-to-back wins last week.

The 18-year-old forward dished out an assist in an overtime road triumph versus Greater Sudbury Thursday, and followed that up with his first NOJHL hat trick Friday as Espanola defeated Blind River at the Regional Recreation Complex.

Hailing from Sudbury, Gringorten is easily on pace to establish personal bests in goals, assists and points this season.

NICOLAS PIGEON, (F) TIMMINS ROCK – The play-making Timmins captain registered seven assists last week, in three outings, including helping aid in two Rock victories to keep his side in top spot overall in the NOJHL standings.

Having already provided a trio of three-plus point performances on the campaign, the 19-year-old from Aylmer, Ont., had two of them during the time frame, which included a three and four-assist nights in wins over Hearst and Cochrane.

Presently topping all league skaters in helpers with 10, Pigeon also shares the overall lead in offensive production with a dozen.
