Rayside-Balfour rolls past Espanola
CHELMSFORD, Ont. – The Rayside-Balfour Canadians foursome of Chad Denault, Brett Whitehead, Tristan Simm and Kyle Liinamaa registered four points apiece to help them roll over the Espanola Express 9-3 Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Chelmsford Arena.
The Canadians came out strong by grabbing a 3-0 lead after one period of play on markers from Bryce O’Brien, with his first NOJHL tally, Whitehead and Denault.
Espanola battled back with three of their own in the middle stanza to knot the affair at 3-3 thanks to Riley Nadeau and a pair from Aaron Roschinsky.
Rayside-Balfour regrouped however and got the eventual game-winner from Noah Serre at 13:09 of the frame while Simm added one via the power play at 18:38 to make it 5-3 after 40 minutes.
The home side then put the game away in the third by putting up a four-spot to secure the win.
Serre added his second of the night at 3:22 while Denault tacked on two more to finish off a hat trick sandwiched around a Kaleb Peldjak effort to finish off the one-sided decision.
Cameron Lamour made 18 saves to pick up the win for the Canadians.
Mitchell Jacobson saw 52 shots fired his way in a losing cause for Espanola while Logan Sawka made one stop in a brief relief stint.
