Romain rocks as Timmins tops Espanola
TIMMINS, Ont. – Tyler Romain tallied three times and set-up another to help the Timmins Rock blast the Espanola Express 9-4 Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena.
Cole Gilligan got Timmins going offensively 7:47 into the contest before Espanola’s Cory Ellerton supplied the equalizer nearly four minutes later.
The middle session saw the Rock take control as they outscored the Express 4-1 to take a 5-2 cushion into the third.
Three of those goals came off the stick of Romain while Nicholas Hway supplied a single.
Hayden Thomas managed to get one for Espanola late in the stanza.
The home side then put the game away in the third with four more markers off the sticks of Jordan Rendle, who had two, along with Patrick Gazich’s first and Jacob Shankar’s eighth.
Adding the efforts for the Express was Jason Bednarski and Colton Sandboe.
A total of 13 different skaters picked up points for the Rock in the victory.
Matt Nixon posted the win facing 21 shots along the way.
Taylor Unruh suffered the loss allowing eight on 41 attempts while Mitchell Jacobson stopped six of seven in 10 minutes of relief.
