Silveri’s hat trick helps Powassan past Eapanola

POWASSAN, Ont. – Michael Silveri had a hat trick to help the Powassan Voodoos defeat the Espanola Express 9-2 Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Six of the Voodoos markers came on the power play in the one-sided result.

After Espanola’s Ian Thompson opened the scoring 3:04 into the game, Powassan popped in three goals of their own from Daniel Walker, Tyler Peters and Silveri to put the home side up 3-1 after 20 minutes.

The Voodoos kept coming notching four man advantage markers in the middle session off the sticks of Silveri, Nicky Grose, Bo Peltier and Makenzie Gray to take control of the contest.

One more for Silveri in the third along with an Alexi Rivet tally made it 9-1 before Dominick Lavergne’s first NOJHL goal for the Express rounded out the scoring.

Garrett Forrest made 24 saves in earning the victory for the Voodoos.

Kevin Labelle started for Espanola and suffered the loss playing two periods and facing 34 shots.

Aaron Callan saw 13 pucks fired his way in the third for the Express.
