Soo Eagles slam Espanola
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Bradley Hofelich scored three times and set-up two others while Chris Murphy doled out five assists to aid the Soo Eagles in thumping the Espanola Express 11-2 Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Pullar Stadium.
The Eagles set the tone early in this one grabbing a 4-0 lead after one period of play thanks to a pair of markers from Hofelich and singles from Jacob Palmerio and Chris Lutz.
The onslaught continued in the middle stanza as Sault Ste. Marie outscored Espanola 6-1 in the session to go up by nine entering the third.
Jake Saxton had a pair of markers for the Soo with Nolan Makkonen, Brendan Schultz, Landon Hubbard and Hofelich also getting into the act.
Nate Viberg had the lone Express marker in the frame, which came via the power play.
The two sides then traded goals in the third to round things out offensively with William Casey scoring for the Eagles and Riley Smith for Espanola.
The Soo outshot the Express 58-28 on the night with Kade Phipps earning the victory in his NOJHL debut while Kyle Alaverdy suffered the defeat.
