Wildcats head into holiday break with win over Express

ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Elliot Lake Wildcats picked up goals from four different skaters and a 41-save performance from netminder Logan Sawka Friday to help them defeat the Espanola Express 4-1 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest Friday at the Regional Recreation Complex.

Elliot Lake gained the upper hand in the match-up by taking a 2-0 lead after one period of play on markers just over two minutes apart from Evan Spencer and Ryan Burlington.

Nick Long’s 16th tally of the season extended the Wildcats lead 5:44 into the middle frame before Connor Tessier’s sixth put Espanola on the board at 13:30 with help from Logan Fennema and Jake Mooring.

The visitors added some insurance in the third off the stick of William Bucsis to round out the scoring on the evening.

David Elford had three assists for Elliot Lake in the victory while teammate David Crook chipped in with a pair of helpers.

Sawka’s efforts allowed him to pick-up the win for the Wildcats with Adam Scott seeing 29 shots against in defeat for the Express.
