3rd period outburst leads Wildcats over Express

ESPANOLA, Ont. – A three-goal outburst in a span of four minutes and 11 seconds in the third period allowed the Elliot Lake Wildcats to break open a tie game as they went on to defeat the Espanola Express 4-1 Friday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Regional Recreation Complex.

The Express did go in front 1-0 thanks to the power play as Cameron Anklewich scored at 11:55 of the first period.

Elliot Lake got that back on an even strength effort by Jacob Kelly 134 seconds later to knot the affair at 1-1 after one.

Following a scoreless second stanza, the Wildcats broke it open in rapid succession in the third to secure the victory.

Brett Jacklin started it with the game-winner at 3:15, which was followed by David Elford’s ninth of the season and shortly after that one by Taylor Woolcott to round out the scoring.

Justin Richer turned in a solid performance in net for Elliot Lake as he made 51 saves to register the victory.

Taylor Unruh faced 34 shots in defeat for the Express.
