SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – Owen Fergusson scored twice and Jake Marois stopped 55 shots as the Espanola Paper Kings blanked the Soo Thunderbirds 2-0 at the John Rhodes Community Centre on Saturday night.
Fergusson opened the scoring less than 3 minutes into the game as the NOJHL’s top point getter netted his 29th of the season past Thunderbirds goalie Kolton Bourret.
It stayed that way until late in the second period when Fergusson put home his 30th of the season on a power play to give the Paper Kings, who were blanked 7-0 in their previous meeting in Espanola, the 2-0 lead.
Lucas Signoretti added a pair of helpers for the Paper Kings.
Marois stood tall between the pipes as he blanked a Thunderbirds squad that went 0 for 9 on the power play in the home loss.
