SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Soo Eagles forward Dominic Skrelja dished out two assists and extended a consecutive game point streak to five in leading his side to a 3-1 victory over the Espanola Express in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Friday night at Pullar Stadium.
The Eagles would take flight just past the five-minute mark of the contest when Skrelja helped set-up Brice French for his fourth of the season.
Moving on to the middle stanza, Sault Ste. Marie doubled their lead at 14:09 when Joel Brandinger notched his third since joining the club.
A late second period power play aided in the Eagles going up by three when Skrelja fed French for his second of the evening at 18:46.
Espanola dashed Soo starter Shane Brancato’s shutout bid at 7:13 of the third when Jakob Fahey converted on a man advantage chance to put the guests on the board.
From there though Brancato shut the door to preserve the home ice triumph.
Shots on goal ended up 41-32 in favour of the hosts with Brancato recording the win while Joel Rainville suffered the defeat.
