ESPANOLA, ON – The Powassan Voodoos scored three goals in the first period and Daniel Dirracolo was perfect in goal as the visitors cruised to a 5-0 win over the Espanola Paper Kings at the Espanola Regional Recreational Complex on Friday night.
Mathieu MacMillan led the Voodoos attack with a pair and veteran forward Cameron Lemcke contributed 1 goal and 1 assist. Chase Thompson also added 2 assists in the Voodoos road win.
The Voodoos got on the board first on an early power play, as Cameron Lemcke netted his 14th with helpers to Mathieu MacMillan and Alex Case only 1:34 in.
The visiting Voodoos added to the lead on a transition play as Mathieu MacMillan potted his 17th on a nice feed from Chase Thompson at 8:26 of the first.
The Voodoos continued to pour it on some good cycle work, as Mathieu MacMilan took another feed from linemate Thompson and the 2023 NOJHL East All-Stars combined to make it 3-0 at 10:45 of the first.
The Voodoos made it 4-0 early in the second as Zach Turner knocked down an errant Paper Kings pass and beat Paper Kings netminder Jake Marois at 4:59 of the second.
Just over three minutes later, Cameron Lemcke made a nifty pass finding linemate Rhys Smetham who buried his 13th to make it 5-0 Voodoos at 8:28.
The two teams went scoreless in the final frame.
Dirracolo got the win in goal while Jake Marois suffered the loss.
The win for the Voodoos improves their record to 22-14-0-2 on the season while the Paper Kings in the tight West fall to 25-15-0-0.
The Voodoos are back on the ice Saturday night as they travel to Kirkland Lake to take on the Gold Miners while the Paper Kings travel to French River to take on the Rapids.
