POWASSAN, ON – Reyth Smith scored three times to spoil a four-goal performance by Lucas Signoretti as the Powassan Voodoos edged the Espanola Paper Kings 5-4 at the Powassan Sportsplex Friday night.

The Papers Kings got out to a quick start less than 10 seconds in as Lucas Signoretti tipped in his 30th of the season on shot from Spencer Horgan.

The Voodoos replied though as Battalion prospect Reyth Smith tapped one home at 1:50.

The Voodoos took the lead just under 13 minutes in as Smith netted his 19th on a quick release from the slot beating Papers Kings netminder Jake Marois upstairs for a 2-1 Voodoos lead.

Signoretti went to work again, this time on a power play as he entered the zone and went upstairs on Voodoos goalie Patrick Charette to even things a 2-2 at 15:15 of the first.

Late first Lucas Signoretti converted a perfect backdoor pass from Owen Fergusson which made it 3-2 Papers Kings with 6 seconds left in the period.

It stayed that way until late in the second as Marios and Charette exchanged some key saves in the middle frame. However, Reyth Smith used his quick hands to sneak a puck from the side of the net around Marois’ pad for the equalizer at 17:15.

In the third Signoretti continued with his impressive performance beating Charette for his 4th of the game for a 4-3 Paper Kings lead.

Rhys Smetham countered less than 20 seconds later off a rebound to even things at 4-4.

The Voodoos continued with momentum from the equalizer as Reyth Smith fed across to Alex Little on a two on one and he beat Marios for the eventual game winner.

With the win, the Voodoos improve to 24-14-0-2 while the Paper Kings drop to 26-16.
