SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Espanola Express forward Devon Savignac along with goaltenders Alex Bugeja of the Soo Thunderbirds and Michael Nickolau of the Cochrane Crunch have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending November 29.
DEVON SAVIGNAC, (F) ESPANOLA EXPRESS – In a pair of road contests over the weekend, the 17-year-old Garson, Ont., product racked up six points in helping his side skate to two victories vs. French River.
Savignac began by notching his third career NOJHL hat trick and had the game-winning goal in a triumph on Friday.
He followed that up with another marker and two assists, including setting up the decider, as the Express topped the Rapids Saturday.
With nine points already this season, his club also boasts a 3-0-1 record in games in which he has scored.
ALEX BUGEJA, (G) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – The 19-year-old netminder, who hails from West Vancouver, B.C., played a pivotal role in helping Sault Ste. Marie collect three of a possible four points against rival Blind River over the weekend.
His efforts saw him post a .928 save percentage during the time making 65 saves in total. He also had six more in a lengthy shootout against the Beavers on Saturday.
Sunday saw him chip in with an assist and register his initial NOJHL victory in a road decision over the Beavers.
MICHAEL NICKOLAU, (G) COCHRANE CRUNCH – The first-year Cochrane goaltender stood tall for his squad Saturday, making a season-high 44 saves, in backstopping the Crunch to a narrow 3-1 decision over previously unbeaten Hearst.
That win was also his first in the league for the six-foot-four-inch stopper.
The 19-year-old netminder from Toronto has been busy early in his tenure up in Cochrane, having faced the most shots against in the NOJHL so far this season at 202.
Nickolau is also tops in saves made at 182.
